Bottrop is a neighbortown of my hometown Oberhausen. In Bottrop you can visit the famous Halde (slag heap) Haniel which has been greened over. On the Halde Haniel you will find a lot of beautiful plants, butterflies, a big cross, stations of the cross (Pope John Paul II visited this place), modern art (see the photo) and more.

I mentioned the yellow parasol before (see below). It was so hot in Kyoto in May 2007. And there were a lot of women with parasols. We went to Takashimaya (department store) and looked for things which could help us in the sun ... Now I use this parasol in the German summer ...

cooling towers are part of my Ruhrgebiet-(Ruhr-area)world, you find them in many cities of the region where I live -- it was so strange, we (kids) heard often the expression cooling tower but there w
as no cooling for us in the summer heat (the cooling towers had only a nice name ... they were used for industrial purposes)

photo: Martin G. Wienert (me in London)

No, I wasn't in London last weekend ...

Above you see a photo from last year. But I enjoyed it to follow a conference in London -- via twitter, last Saturday. I thought that it would be a good time for someone who loves short poetry and it really was a good time.

Here more about this conference (Tate Modern, London):

"Shortness
A very short conference and a very long dinner

Saturday 20 June 2009, 14.00–21.30

14.00–17.00 symposium 18.00–21.30 dinner in the East Room"

"In short, this event brings together practitioners and theoreticians of the humanities, arts and sciences to extol or berate, to discuss, explore and explain shortness in all its spatial and temporal manifestations..."

"...The short conference is followed by a long dinner in Tate Modern's East Room. Dinner guests will be entertained by short speeches and the whole event is supplemented by short films, performances and various intervention..."
